Past is Prologue
 The
interior and mechanical changes of 1990 and the exterior changes of 1991
combined with the introduction of a redesigned LT1 "Gen-II" small block V8
denoted the phased-in beginning to the second stage of the C4 generation.
Coupes outsold the convertible again as 20,479 Vettes passed from the
manufacturing facility into the Kentucky sunshine. Over 25 per cent
of the Corvettes were equipped with manual transmissions.
The LT1 was rated an an even 300
horsepower. Changes to the engine included reverse-flow cooling,
better-breathing cylinder heads, a smoother exhaust tract, higher compression,
revised cam profiles and improved computer management. If you wanted more
power, you could choose the LT5's 375 horsepower, but you had to select the RPO
ZR-1 option and pay over $31,000. Only 502 takers this MY despite
the new, but subtle, front-fender badges for MY 1992.
Accelerated Slip Regulation (ASR) traction control
became standard...and the millionth Corvette was buit July 2, 1992...a white
convertible.
The base price was $33,635 for coupes and $40,145 for
convertibles.

color options dropped from ten in MY 1991 to nine.
Steel Blue Metallic, Turquoise Metallic and
Charcoal Metallic (sold the least) from MY 1991 color lineup were dropped.
Bright Aqua Metallic and Black
Rose Metallic were added. The color
lineup included: Black, White, Yellow, Bright Aqua Metallic, Quasar Blue
Metallic, Black Rose Metallic, Dark Red Metallic, Bright Red, Polo Green II
Metallic.
Bright Red, Arctic White and Black (as in
1991) were the top three colors with Bright Red accounting for 4,466 Vettes.
