Introducing the ZR-1?
Although originally announced as
a MY 1989 option, the production of the ZR-1 would have to wait until 1990
because of an insufficient engine supply. Sales of the coupe climbed
above 30,000 for the first time. Convertible sales still outpaced those of
the coupe. Corvette Challenge race cars totaled 60 while 69 Callaway
Twin-Turbos were produced.

The ZF 6-speed
manual transmission was introduced along with a state-of-the-art FX3 adjustable
suspension option which permitted shock valving changes via a rotary dial
mounted on the interior console between the seats.
Bright Red remained the most popular
exterior color as it had since the beginning of the C4 generation. White
came in second while Black was the third favorite. Only 225 Corvettes
suited up in Gray Metallic.
