The third generation began in 1968 and lasted through MY 1982. In effect,
there was no MY 1983. Chevrolet chose to skip MY 1983 since the 1984
Corvette was ready to roll in the first part of calendar year 1983. The C3
generation is the longest to date producing a roller coaster ride as the
Corvette's horsepower dipped to 160 and the convertible was eliminated.
Dave McLellan took over early in the C3 years as Chief Engineer upon Zora
Arkus-Duntov's retirement.
