Breaking the 10K Barrier

66, the television series...not the road per se, conjures up a 1960 Corvette
convertible with Martin Milner and George Maharis looking very cool.
The 1960 Corvette was the first Vette to have a series...but several other
"firsts" were recorded during this MY. For the GM bean counters, MY 1960
was the first year that over 10,000 Corvettes were sold.
For power hungry Corvette enthusiasts, Corvette engines finally produced over 300 horsepower..
The most difficult selection for any prospective buyer...dual quads or fuel
injection? The top
of the line "fuelie" roared to life with 315 horsepower.
However, if you wanted a "fuelie" this year, you were required to order a
manual transmission.
This was the last
year that the taillights were formed into the rounded rear fenders and the last
year for the "teeth" in the grill.
Fifty-one per cent of the Corvettes delivered had been ordered with manual
transmissions. Over fifty per cent of the Corvettes were ordered
with "posi-traction" rear ends.

Exterior colors this year
included: Roman Red, Tuxedo
Black, Horizon Blue, Ermine White, Cascade Green, Sateen Silver, Tasco
Turquoise. Ermine White was chosen on more than twice as many as the second
most popular color, Roman Red. Tuxedo Black followed in third.
Cascade Green was the least popular appearing on only 140 Vettes.
